  • CHARACTERS

In the novel Jekyll is not described as pure well, but as a mixture of the well and of the wrong and Hyde was the instrument that executed his pleasures.

With the personality of the Doctor, Jekyll could not express his cruelties openly, because he was a prestigious man and he was known in all London and furthermore he had been characterized by helping his fellowmen.

The Hyde's acts are characterized by the brutality and the cruelt he is a sadistic. Hyde is the cruelty, the malice, the selfishness and the cowardice, these are the devilish qualities of Hyde.

The Doctor Jekyll is a man concerned about the welfare of the others and he likes to make the good, but furthermore he is a doble moral individual, he does not demonstrate his real pleasures and he must appeal to a double "personality" for satisfy them.

The Doctor Jekyll manifests that all we have a double personality, all we have tendencies to the well and to the wrong , this is natural:

Día tras día y desde las dos dimensiones de mi

inteligencia, la moral y la intelectual, me fui

acercando así cada vez más a esa verdad por

cuyo parcial descubrimiento he sido condenado

a tan horrible naufragio: que el hombre no es

                    verdaderamente uno, sino verdaderamente dos.

Jekyll was protecting Hyde because through him, he was satisfying his cruel pleasures. Pleasures that being the respectable and reputable Dr. Jekyll could not carry out.

    These are the main characters.

Other characters in the novel are: Enfield is the minor character. He was a prudent man and also hypocritical , because he did not make known his and his points of view about the things that were happening. He was the hypocritical image of the society.

Utterson was a rigid and hard man for himself and he was very tolerant for the others. Utterson instead of criticizing to the people that they incured in the evil, he admires them and he investigates the causes and motives that carried them to commit those offenses. And he was feeling an envy of the persons that had commited offenses against the moral and he was interesting to know which had been the passions that they had edgeed to them.

Lanyon was a doctor, a noble man, he was an excellent colleage of Utterson and Jekyll. He was a healthy man but he lost one's mind when he presenced the Hyde and Jekyll's transformation scene.

The two doors carry to each one to their area: to the respectable society and to the nocturnal pleasure.

Jekyll and Hyde had each one their door, each one his life, each one an I, but sharing a same main.

The relationships between Jekyll and Hyde are symbolized in the house of Jekyll, that it is half Jekyll and half Hyde..

In many parts of the novel is spoken of the fog that covers the sky, I believe that fog is the representation of the bad thinks of the society of that era.

The mirror I believe that is used as a reflex of the real identity, of the real passions and of the real "I".

“All man has two personalities, the good and the evil and alone will leave afloat the personality that rule his moral.”

    PLOT LINE

Exposition is the line 1. In which is exposed the relationship of the door with the novel.

Development are lines 2 to 14. In this, the history is going taking shape and are gone knowing little by little the secrets of Jekyll and Hyde.

Climax is line 15. It is the most important point of the novel and it is when Utterson and Poole go into the cabinet and discover to Hyde dead.

Resolution are lines 16 to 18. In these lines Utterson is inform by the letters of the personality change of Jekyll to Hyde and he knows that Lanyon was one witness of these changes.

Denoument are lines 19 and 20. In this part is known the real identity of Jekyll, he always had been Hyde.

    PERSONAL OPINION

Seemed me a very interesting novel, because it shows us that all the human beings are moved by two natural forces that they are the good and the evil. The human beings depend on these two forces.

Some times we concern about the welfare of the other and we want to make the good, but in other emerges a unexplainable feeling that makes us to do things that we never had thought that we would make. But there are not doubt that each individual advances according his moral to the road that he may have elected: to the good or to the wrong.
